MPs question DWP officials about benefit statistics
The Work and Pensions Select Committee questioned a senior statistician and a communications director from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) about the way the Department has produced and released statistics.
MPs questioned these officials about DWP's role in helping the media interpret statistics. They also discussed the recent investigations by the statistics watchdog into Iain Duncan Smith's inaccurate claims about the benefits cap and press releases that failed to comply with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics.
