How we use AI in our editorial work
Like many organisations, Full Fact is currently exploring the opportunities of AI, and in particular considering how generative AI can assist and help improve our editorial processes.
Full Fact has long embraced the possibilities AI brings - our own world-leading AI fact checking software has been used by over 45 organisations in 30 countries. Our expertise in developing and using AI means we are also mindful of its potential pitfalls, including concerns around hallucinations, inaccuracies and bias.
We are experimenting with new ways to use technology to help create a better product, but humans continue to take the lead throughout the fact checking process. Any fact checks drafted with the help of AI will be fully checked by the (human) writer prior to being submitted for review, and will then undergo careful checks from at least two senior members of the team in addition to the writer. Other Full Fact content produced with the help of AI will be reviewed by at least one human prior to publication.
Any research carried out with the help of AI will also be fully verified before it is used, and if AI is used to create any imagery we will always say so clearly. Our commitment to accuracy and impartiality remains undiminished and we will be transparent about our use of new technology in creating any external content.
We are excited about the technology revolution, and determined to make the most of it. But we will also proceed with caution when necessary.
We will also be clear about the use of AI in our Privacy statement, where our use impacts anyone outside the organisation.
