Internal migration

Migration statistics aren’t restricted to people from abroad – even people in the UK ‘migrate’ to other parts of the country.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) measures the number and location of internal migration moves as part of its annual internal migration series. This data is broken down by age, sex, region and proportion of the total population in England and Wales.

The ONS also visualises these estimates in an interactive graphic of England and Wales.
