Critical thinking training

Everyone should have the skills and confidence to navigate the internet safely. Our talks, workshops and lesson plans aim to equip you with the tools you need to be able to analyse any source, and to spot potentially misleading or harmful information online.

Workshops for schools

Planned changes to the National Curriculum will soon mean that identifying mis- and disinformation, as well as critical thinking skills, will be part of the learning programme for Primary-age children.

Full Fact's journalists deliver talks and workshops in schools and colleges on how young people can identify misinformation and understand what drives it to spread online. As with all our work, our presentations are powered by examples from over a decade of fact checking and campaigning for better standards of information.

Full Fact has also worked with partners including the Welsh government to deliver online training programmes for teachers, and the National College for Digital Skills to provide data analysis courses for apprentices.

Workshops for professionals

We regularly build critical thinking workshops into our training programmes, often alongside fact checking training.

Here's what it can involve:

  • We cover media monitoring skills aimed at identifying the key sources of claims and triaging which ones to check.
  • We look at the different forms of misinformation and how to spot the patterns and tactics of those who spread it.
  • We investigate the types of harm associated with different forms of mis— and disinformation, and how to assess their potential.
  • Participants learn how to identify whether or not a source is reliable using a simple checklist, and to understand how to apply best practices of trustworthiness in journalism.

Our workshops run to half- or full-day sessions and our rates vary depending on the number of participants. We also offer a discount to charities.
