Guardian clarifies source of Troubled Families cost

21 August 2014

The government's Troubled Families programme was initially launched to help an estimated 120,000 families and has since been extended to an additional 400,000 families.

As we covered earlier this week, the widely reported "more than £30 billion" cost of these families was estimated by the Sunday Times (£), not the government.

The Guardian yesterday amended its article to attribute the figure to the Sunday Times, after we pointed out the estimated cost didn't come from "new government figures".

We also asked the Mail to clarify its piece which says the figure comes from a "major study", and we're awaiting a response.
