The winners of the Royal Statistical Society's Statistical Excellence Awards in Official Statistics, Journalism and the Pharmaceutical Industry were announced on StatsLife yesterday.

Medals and prizes will be presented at the Society's annual International Conference, taking place in Sheffield from the 1st to the 4th of September.

The prize for Official Statistics will be jointly awarded to the Ministry of Justice for The Justice Data Lab, which uses re-offending data to help organisations who work with young offenders measure the success of their rehabilitation programs, and to the Department for Energy and Climate Change for The National Energy Efficiency Data-framework (NEED) which will help people work out how much energy they could save in their house.

Chris Cook, Martin Stabe and Cleve Jones of the Financial Times won an online journalism award for an animated video on the way the Government measures school achievement.
