Update: figures show a million UK-born people living in other EU countries

29 May 2014

Statistics on the number of EU residents living in the UK regularly make headlines. But until earlier this month we knew less about how many people have moved in the opposite direction; from the UK to other EU countries.

Research published by Oxford University's Migration Observatory analysed census data from all EU member states apart from Belgium and the Netherlands, and found that at least 1,067,362 UK-born people were living in other EU countries in 2011.

That compares to 2.6 million EU residents living in the UK.

We've updated our spotlight on EU migration to and from the UK to include the figures.
