Our verdict

This tweet actually comes from a parody account.

A screenshot of what appears to be a tweet from radical preacher Anjem Choudary has been shared several hundred times on Facebook.

The screenshots are of a real tweet, but it comes from a parody account. The account’s handle spells Anjem Choudary’s surname incorrectly, and the Twitter bio is “Actually yet another of Anjem’s imaginary friends”. Other tweets from the account strongly suggest it is not the actual Anjem Choudary tweeting.

Anjem Choudary was released from prison last year, after serving time for supporting ISIS. The BBC reported that after leaving prison his internet use would be supervised and he would be banned from using an internet-enabled device without permission.
