How well do you think you know your local area? You might be surprised.

21 July 2014

The ONS has released a clever little tool that quizzes you on your knowledge of your local area.

If you live in England or Wales, just pop in a postcode and then make your best guess on everything from the religious beliefs of your neighbours to how many are paying a mortgage on their home.

It's based on data from the 2011 census.

Everyone in the Full Fact office has given it a go, and none of us were able to score much more than 50%.

What really surprised us is the diversity of the ways in which we went wrong - some of us knew almost exactly how many children lived in our areas but were taken aback by how many didn't own a car. For others it was the complete opposite.

It's a great example of how official statistics can be communicated in an engaging way.

Full Fact fights bad information

Bad information ruins lives. It promotes hate, damages people’s health, and hurts democracy. You deserve better.
