Tube ticket offices used more than claimed

29 April 2014

"London Underground says only 3% of tickets are sold at ticket offices" The Mirror, 29 April 2014

19%, not 3%, of transactions at tube stations happened at a ticket office, as we found in February.

The 3% figure is London Underground's estimate of the proportion of tube journeys which involve a visit to a ticket office.

Plans by London Underground to remove ticket offices from underground stations were one of the reasons given by the RMT union for the tube strike that began yesterday.

It's not clear where Mirror got the statistic but we will be contacting them to clarify.
