Fake deal for £10 metal detector from Go Outdoors shared online
Posts and an advert on Facebook falsely claim that people aged 40 and older can get a metal detector worth hundreds for just £10.
The posts include pictures of a metal detector and are captioned: “My oldest son works at Go Outdoors and just told me that if you’re 40 or older, you can fill out a super short survey and get a Garrett Ace 300 Metal Detector for just a tenner.”
But Go Outdoors confirmed to Full Fact that this is not a genuine deal.
The detector model mentioned in the posts is being sold by other retailers for around £280. While Go Outdoors does stock metal detecting equipment, it is not currently selling this model.
