Unevidenced quote Donald Trump’s mother said he’d be a ‘disaster’ in politics circulates again
A quote critical of President Donald Trump attributed to his late mother, Mary Anne Trump, is circulating again on social media.
Posts show an image of Mr Trump with his mother alongside text suggesting she hoped her son “never gets into politics” as “he’d be a disaster”.
As we’ve explained before, there’s no evidence Mrs Trump ever said these words, and the supposed quote has been repeatedly debunked by other fact checking organisations too.
We’ve not been able to find the original source of the photo. Mrs Trump died in 2000.

Similar posts have been shared online since at least 2019, and in 2021 we fact checked an almost identical quote circulating about the then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
We’ve seen other unevidenced quotes attributed to President Trump and politicians such as Sir Keir Starmer and London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
This article is part of our work fact checking potentially false pictures, videos and stories on Facebook. You can read more about this—and find out how to report Facebook content—here. For the purposes of that scheme, we’ve rated this claim as false because there’s no evidence Mary Anne Trump ever said this about her son, President Donald Trump.
